Spring 2026 Campaign: Pedestrian-priority crossings

The County Council and Greater Cambridge Partnership both claim to support walking/wheeling but all too often pedestrian needs are overlooked.

We need to build evidence demonstrating:

  • Poorly maintained crossings: potholes; faded road markings
  • Absence of crossing points where needed for safe pedestrian movement
  • Lack of ‘desire line’ crossing; pedestrians forced into detours from direct routes
  • Long waits for pedestrian phase at crossings to accommodate road traffic movement
  • Pedestrian phases too short for less mobile walkers/wheelers to cross comfortably or safely

Take a photo of a crossing that does not work well for you as a walker or wheeler.

Email your photo to cambridgegroup@livingstreets.org.uk or to our Facebook page (Cambridge Living Streets) adding time, date, location and problem type, plus the improvements you’d like to see.

Where do we want to get to?

  • We need more crossings better positioned to meet pedestrian needs and respond to walking/wheeling ‘desire lines’ to reach shops and other amenities
  • Repair/repainting of worn out crossings
  • Better timings that avoid long waits and allow time for safe crossing by everyone: older and infirm walkers, buggy users, school children.

Thank you for helping!
