Welcome to Cambridge Living Streets
Promoting everyday walking
The Cambridge Living Streets Group campaigns for safer and better streets across the city and for more investment in pedestrian infrastructure. We want well-maintained pavements and crossings, wider pavements where needed, benches, adequate lighting and shade. Our pavements are for walking not for pavement parking and clutter.
Join our Campaign to get crossings better maintained – see our Campaigns page. Press the County Council to use its new powers to introduce a ban on pavement parking. Push for a cityscape that puts walking – the cheapest and healthiest transport mode – first, not traffic flow. See our News page.
Walk with Us
We started our Cambridge Living Streets local walks programme in 2024 with a free ‘turn up on the day’ offer of gentle mid-week and weekend walks throughout the year. Our aim was to encourage more people to walk, meeting other walkers, enjoying the healthy exercise and assessing the state of walking infrastructure across the city.
Since then we have organised over 50 walks in different parts of Cambridge, with hundreds of people joining the walks. Each walk lasts about 1.5 hours and has a distinctive focus, with walk leaders who provide insights into a chosen topic. Themes have included architecture, sculpture, history, city growth, nature, and religion.

Mapping City Walking Routes
Over the last two years we have mapped many well-used walking routes in Cambridge, with the help of local residents. These routes guide walkers to key destinations including shops, retail parks, schools and workplaces. Our aim has been to provide walkers with information about useful routes to encourage and support everyday walking and wheeling.
